Omexco NV:
Collection “imperialis” as a stage for finest veneer from the Paulowina tree

Bonn/Heverlee. Omexco NV, based in Heverlee, Belgium, is known for its tailor-made, sustainably produced wall coverings. The company, which was founded in 1976, also uses high-quality veneers for this. The imperialis collection, which offers the best of the tree an attractive stage, is a fine example of the Belgians' creativity.

The veneer for the current imperialis collection from Omexco is obtained from the so-called Paulownia tree. The plant originally comes from Japan, where it is known as “Kiri”. “It found its way to Europe in 1835 through the efforts of Philipp Franz von Siebold, a renowned collector of Japanese plants,” explains the company founder's son and Omexco General Manager Thomas Dubaere. In recognition of the Imperial Grand Duchess Anna Pavlovna's contribution to botany, von Siebold gave the tree the new name “Paulownia”. “A tree that has proven to be an excellent basis for our company's new collection,” says Dubaere.

The imperialis collection presents a wide range of opulent inlay designs made from the exquisite wood of this attractive tree, which is perfect for veneer production. “In various art deco patterns, the wood veneer is delicately placed by our staff against a gilded background. The wood is used in its purest form to showcase the elegance of uncomplicated geometries,” says the Omexco Managing Director. A team of in-house designers is in constant dialog with a highly qualified production team to create new designs. “A lot of research and development goes into the development of these new designs to ensure that we can always offer a high-quality product,” reports Dubaere with pride. Ursula Geismann, Managing Director of the Initiative Furnier + Natur (IFN) and long-time trend analyst, shares Omexco's enthusiasm for the “fillet of the tree” and its skillful use in Art Deco and mid-century designs: “Veneer transports the beauty of wood into every room in a material-friendly and environmentally friendly way - from private spaces to large-scale public buildings. A great example of the wealth of variants and the diversity of ideas of all companies that have dedicated themselves to the use of fine wood veneers.” IFN/DS
